OPPOSE GROUND WATER TRANSFER FROM SPRING AND SNAKE VALLEYS OF EASTERN NEVADA

The Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) has filed applications to divert ground water from the Spring and Snake Valleys of Eastern Nevada to Clark County in order to provide water that is sought for the growth of Las Vegas and Henderson. This diversion of ground water could have an adverse effect on wildlife by drying up springs and streams and could also have an adverse effect on Great Basin National Park. Some water rights have already been purchased by SNWA through the acquisition of a large ranch in Spring Valley. The Nevada State Engineer will hold hearings on the acquisition of other water rights in these valleys in September.

The Federation of Western Outdoor Clubs urges the Nevada State Engineer to reject the application of the Southern Nevada Water Authority for ground water in the Spring and Snake Valleys because of the adverse effect of such a water diversion on the natural resources of Eastern Nevada.
