OFF-ROAD VEHICLES ON
FEDERAL LANDS |
|
|
The Federation of Western
Outdoor Clubs vehemently opposes the proposal of Secretary of Interior
Watt that millions of acres of federal lands in the west be opened to
unrestricted use by owners of dune buggies, motorcycles, and off-road
vehicles. These vehicles disrupt the breeding and nesting habits
of wildlife. The destruction of plant life is well
documented. They are polluters of the air and their noise
prevents the enjoyment the quiet of the wilderness. |
|
Executive orders were
issued by both Presidents Nixon and Carter limiting the use of these
destructive and noisy vehicles on federal lands. Because present
Secretary of Interior seems intent on removing these past protections
the Federation of Western Outdoor Clubs urgently requests Congress to
pass legislation stringently regulating these vehicles and banning them
altogether from critical environmental areas on federal lands. |
