1981 RESOLUTIONS
No. 21 |
WASHINGTON WILDERNESS |
The Federation of
Western Outdoor
Clubs reaffirms its 1977 Resolutions No. 27 and No. 29, and 1980
Resolution No. 19, all supporting wilderness classification for the
Cougar Lake/Green Water River Area, the Kettle Range, the Boulder
River Valley, and Mt. Baker Area, respectively. |
The Federation further
supports wilderness designation for the following areas in Washington
State: |
The Clearwater area north
of Mt. Rainier National Park, with its fine old-growth forests and
spectacular views.
The Dark Divide (lowland
forest, open ridgetops and meadows) and Indian Heaven (beautiful hiking
country with more than 100 lakes and ponds) area, roadless islands in
the heavily roaded Pinchot Forest.
The roadless areas
bordering Glacier Peak Wilderness, including the lowland valleys north
of Stevens Pass.
The Lake Chelan-Sawtooth
area, with its fragile alpine ridges and forests of the Granite Creek
valley.
The semi-arid steppes and
juniper groves of the Juniper Forest.
The Rugged ridges and
fishing rivers of the Olympic Skyline.
The red cedar rainforests
of the Salmo-Priest area, providing habitat for grizzlies, caribou, and
many other animals.
Additions to the existing
Mt. Adams, Goat Rocks, and Pasayten Wilderness, which would provide
more ecologically-rational boundaries.
The addition of the
remainder of the Tatoosh Range to Mount Rainier National Park.
The Federation of
Western Outdoor
Clubs also urges that the sufficiency language compromise which was
included in the California Wilderness Bill be included as part of any
Washington Wilderness Legislation. |
