|
The Federation of Western Outdoor Clubs, at its 1978 convention, passed Resolution No. 24 for the protection of Mono Lake. At the 1980 convention, the Federation recommended that the Lake be restored to its 1970 level by reducing diversion of water intake to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. | |
Subsequently
Congressman Norman Shumway filed H.R. 4057 to establish the Mono
Lake National Monument (1) to consist of the federally-owned land along
Mono's shores, on Negit and Paoha Islands, and in the Mono Craters, (2)
authorize a comprehensive study of alternate water management policies
to conserve water and reduce the need for Mono Basis water diversion,
and (3) institute scientific monitoring of the impact of water
diversions on the Mono Lake ecosystems. |
