WILD HORSES AND
BURROS ON PUBLIC LAND |
|
|
Wild free-roaming horses
and burros are among the diverse life forms utilizing range lands of
the United States. However, these animals (as well as many other
animals, birds, insects, and plants) have been introduced by man and
are not indigenous species. Furthermore, often introduced species
bring serious problems to the ecological cycle. Overpopulation
has resulted in serious range damage in the case of wild horses and
burros. |
|
The Federation of
Western Outdoor
Clubs recommends that the population of wild free-roaming horses and
burros be controlled by humane methods to provide habitat conducive for
healthy wild animals and plants of various species, as well as for
domesticated animals which may be supported by the land. |
