CALIFORNIA WILDERNESS
BILL |
|
|
A California Wilderness
Bill, H.R. 4083, the California Wilderness Act of 1981, has again been
passed in the House, on July 17, 1981. This bill, essentially the
same as H.R. 7702 which passed in the House in the last session but
died in the Senate, is an artful compromise crafted by Rep. Phillip
Burton and greed upon by nearly all concerned groups in California. |
|
This bill, introduced by
Sen. Alan Cranston (Calif.) is now in the Senate in nearly identical
form, and has been referred to the Committe on Energy and Natural
Resources (Sen. James McClure of Idaho, Chairman). This bill
should be favorably reported out of committee and passed by the Senate
because it not only offers wilderness protection to many vital areas in
California but also serves as a model for similar statewide wilderness
bills. |

Accordingly, the Federation of
Western Outdoor
Clubs urges the Senate to pass the California Wilderness Act of 1981. |
