1981 RESOLUTIONS

No. 43 |
DECLARATION OF
SECRETARY WATT |
|
|
S. 842, the RARE II Review
Act of 1981, introduced by Sen. Hayakawa (Calif.) is in the
Senate. This bill, and its House equivalent, introduced by
Congressmen Huckaby and Young, would accept the U.S.F.S. RARE II
recommendations for wilderness and non-wilderness as final,
impose unreasonable short deadlines for evaluating these areas, and, by
"release" language rather than "sufficiency" language, would preclude
any consideration of such roadless areas as wilderness in any future
time. Passage of this bill would not allow proper consideration
of all relevant concerns and would seriously impeded, if not prevent,
passage of other statewide wilderness bills. |
|
Accordingly, the Federation of
Western Outdoor
Clubs urges the Senate to defeat the RARE II Review Act of 1981. |
