1982 RESOLUTIONS
|
No. 1 | REAUTHORIZATION OF THE ENDANGERED SPECIES ACT | |
|
||
In June, 1982 both the
House of Representatives and the Senate passed legislation
reauthorizing the Endangered Species Act for three years. Both
bills maintain strong provisions of the current law that protects
endangered and threatened species. The House-Senate Conference
Committee has now reported a final version for consideration by both
Houses of Congress in September. All species are vital links in
the chain of life, and species diversity adds to the quality of life;
the present increased rate of species extinction is directly related to
human activities. A strong, effective Endangered Species Act is
essential in order to reverse this trend and protect endangered and
threatened species. |

The Federation of Western
Outdoor Clubs thanks all members of Congress who supported and worked
for passage of the legislation reauthorizing a strong Endangered
Species Act. The Federation urges Congress to rapidly adopt the
Conference Report and urges President Reagan to sign the final
legislation. The Federation further urges the Congress
and the Administration to provide adequate financial and administrative
support in order to enforce the provisions of this act and work toward
effective protection of America's endangered and threatened wild native
species of plants and animals. |
