DIVESTITURE OF PUBLIC LANDS | |
|
||
|
The largest acreages of
public lands in the Western states are the states' and nation's
greatest economic and natural resource. Any significant reduction
in the national debt by federal land sales would require the sale of
hundreds of millions of acres, and not preclude the reestablishment of
a huge debt. No guidelines for the selection of the so-called
"surplus" lands have been establishment. |
|
Be it resolved, by the
Federation of Western
Outdoor Clubs, that public lands should remain in public ownership in
the best interest of the citizens of the United States, except for
unused federal administrative sites and isolated and unmanageable small
tracts of land (after guidelines for the selection and sale of such
sites have been established). |
