PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION INTO PARKS | |
|
||
Many of our state and
national parks can only be reached by use of the automobile. The
automobile has an adverse impact on the natural environment because of
the air and noise pollution, congestion and increased fire
danger. Increased automobile traffic depletes critically needed
funds for parks and preempts lands for parking and roads. Public
transportation enables that segment of the public who cannot afford to
own or operate an automobile to have access to these parks. |
||
The Federation of Western
Outdoor Clubs recommends: |
||
1. Public
transportation agencies be urged to provide access to these parks
wherever feasible for providing adequate public transportation.
|
||
2. State and
national park agencies be urge to provide transportation within their
parks in order to provide access for the general public, and
particularly for the elderly and handicapped, and to minimize the need
for the use of private automobiles within the parks.
