ACCESS TO PUBLIC LANDS | |
|
||
As the population of the
country has grown, many ocean beaches, streams, rivers, and public
lands have been cut off from public access by industry, commerce,
housing, and other private uses (farms, posted areas, etc.). The
public has an inalienable right to free access to all areas not
privately owned except where reasonable closures are essential to
wildlife management, erosion control, plant protection, and maintenance
of wilderness integrity, and restrictions for defense purposes.
There should not be prohibitions for the economic benefit or
convenience of corporate and/or local individual landowners. |
||
The Federation of Western
Outdoor Clubs petitions and encourages local, state, and federal
government agencies to assure public access to public lands, unless it
would degrade general environmental or wildlife habitat quality, or
defense installations, by retaining access where it now exists and
obtaining easements or other provisions for entry where access is
denied. |
