1983 RESOLUTIONS

NO. 2 |
SALE OF PUBLIC LANDS | |
|
||
Public lands rightfully
belong to all the people, and Government Agencies have an obligation to
see that freedom of access and use of them is not unduly curtailed, and
that they are managed in a way that will guarantee preservation of our
natural resources. The Administration is attempting to sell lands
in all but six states, totalling six million acres. |
||
The large acreages of
public lands in the states are the nation's greatest economic natural
resource. Acceptable guidelines for the selection of the
so-called "surplus" lands have not been established. |
||
The Federation of Western
Outdoor Clubs resolves that public lands should remain in public
ownership in the best interest of the citizens of the United States
until acceptable guidelines for the selection and disposal of such
sites have been established. |
