1983 RESOLUTIONS
|
NO. 5 |
JAMES WATT | |
|
||
Interior Secretary James
Watt apparently intends, as he so eloquently puts it, to "cannibalize"
the National Park Service and to deliver much of America's public
wealth and beauty into the hands of polluters and profiteers. He
has already succeeded in leasing millions of acres of unspoiled lands
to energy corporations at bargain-basement prices and he has placed
additional vast tracts of spectacular and resource-rich lands on the
auction block, offering for lease more land than industry can currently
handle. |
||
The Federation of Western
Outdoor Clubs finds this an affront to the American people, a
shortsighted and selfish treatment of our natural resources, and
petitions the Congress for legislation that will in effect put up a
sign that says "no trespassing by private industry" on the public
domain. |
