NO. 7 |
RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF A NATIONAL POLICY REGARDING THE USE OF PERSISTENT CHEMICALS IN THE ERADICATION OF THE GYPSY MOTH | |
|
||
Eradication programs in
the United States has failed. |
||
The immediate long term
hazards of persistent chemicals to human health have not adequately
been evaluated. |
||
Persistent chemicals are
harmful to bees, birds, aquatic organisms and other beneficial species
including natural predators of the gypsy moth. |
||
Less hazardous
alternatives are available, e.g. biological controls. |
||
Therefore, the Federation
of Western
Outdoor Clubs supports a national policy to develop long range pest
control programs which utilize an integrated pest management approach
featuring biological rather than persistent chemical controls. |
