FUNDS FOR NATIONAL AND LOCAL TRAILS
BUILDING AND MAINTENANCE
|
|
A proposed provision in
the new National Park Service budget will reduce the funds for the
Natural Programs by 50 per cent. There are indications that the
Park Service officials believe there is little demand for new trails or
river protection. If this action is finalized, there would be a
serious erosion of trail and river studies and of assistance to state
and local agencies for development of new trails or maintenance of
existing trails. |
|
The Federation of Western
Outdoor Clubs recommends that all of the funds allocated for the
natural Programs be retained in the National Park Services budget so
studies of trails and rivers can be continued. Also sufficient
funds should be provided to supply funds for assistance to state and
local agencies for trail development and maintenance. |
