No. 27 |
DISPOSAL OF HAZARDOUS WASTES
|
|
In 1976 the Congress of
the United States passed the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act
which required that businesses generating more than 2000 pounds per
month of "hazardous" wastes must handle their wastes in accordance with
the above mentioned act. However, in 1982 the State of Washington
Administrative Code 173-303 by virtue of statute 70,105 mandated that
all business which generate more than 400 pounds per month of
"dangerous" wastes must handle these wastes as per the above mentioned
federal statute. |
This allows businesses
that generate less than 2000 pounds per month and less than 400 pounds
per month complete exemption to the Federal Act and the State statute
respectively. |
|
Be it therefore resolved
that the Federation of Western
Outdoor Clubs ask that a new Federal Act and State regulations be
passed that will required that all "hazardous" and "dangerous" wastes
be handled as required to protect the total environment and the public. |
