KETTLE RANGE IN WASHINGTON
|
|
The Federation of Western Outdoor Clubs commends the entire Washington congressional delegation for its collective efforts resulting in enactment of the Washington State Wilderness Act of 1984, recently signed by President Reagan, which set aside a little over one million acres of public lands as wilderness. Without the spirit of give and take of the delegation and without the participation of the environmental organizations this result could not have been achieved. |
One omission in an
otherwise fine Act, was that of the Kettle Range, an approximately
70,000 acre are of public land highly qualified as wilderness, as well
as being a unique ecological system. To remedy this omission The
Federation of Western Outdoor Clubs earnestly urges the Washington
congressional delegation to review this area and use every effort to
have it added to the Washington wilderness system already established
by the Act. |
