RIDGELANDS PRESERVE -- SAN FRANCISCO BAY
AREA
The Federation of Western Outdoor Clubs supports the concept of a Ridgelands Preserve for the undeveloped hill area southeast of San Francisco Bay. This green belt area would consist of a continuous band of land available only for agriculture, open space, parks and trails between Mt. Diablo and Pacheco Pass, which would encompass approximately 1100 square miles in the Diablo Range. For implementation of this concept we support the following methods: |
1. Legal means for
permanently guaranteeing agricultural and open space uses of the land,
together with equitable assessment of private lands.
2. Acquisition of
lands where public access is desirable for recreational uses that are
compatible with environmental protection.
3. Trails linking
parks and providing access from urban centers.
4. Increased
non-motorized recreational access to public watershed lands.
