1988 RESOLUTIONS
|
_NO.11_ |
|
The Army Corps of
Engineers has recently proposed dredging the Hanford Reach in order to
construct a barge canal. This canal poses a significant threat to
the sensitive fish, wildlife and plant habitat of the Reach. |
|
Legislation has therefore been proposed (S 1850 and HR 3614) to preserve and study the Hanford Reach of the Columbia River in order to protect this last great free-flowing stretch of the Columbia from damming or dredging. These bills would provide for a Wild and Scenic River study of this area. | |
The Federation of Western
Outdoor Clubs supports the Hanford Reach Study Bills and calls for the
early passage of this important legislation. |
