1988 RESOLUTIONS
|
_NO.19_ |
|
In 1988 the Washington
Parks Wilderness Bills or S 2165 and HR 4146 were introduced wherein
over seventeen million acres within Olympic, Mt. Rainier and North
Cascades National parks would be designated as wilderness along with
some changes in the parks themselves. |
|
Specifically, in the
Olympia National Park it is proposed that most of Osette Lake, the
slopes north of Lake Crescent, the north side of the Queets River, the
entire coastal strip including the intertidal zone and the entire main
part of the park should be designated wilderness. In Mount
Rainier National Park the wilderness boundary near Crystal Mountain Ski
Area should be drawn at the Park boundary. In the North Cascades
National Park it is proposed that Big Beaver and Thunder Creek be set
aside as wilderness, as well as the upper Stehekin Valley reclaimed
from the road that is barely passable. |
