| Senator John Melcher has
presented a bill to the Congress as the Montana Wilderness Act.
This bill (S 2751) would set aside 1.4 million acres. |

| On the other hand, the
Montana Wildlands Coalition, an alliance of national and local
environmental groups, has prepared an alternate proposal, known as
Alternative "W", which would set aside 2.8 million acres.
Alternative "W" is a much more reasonable and balanced solution to the
historical battle for Montana's national forest roadless lands. |
