LOCATION OF LARGE POWER
PLANTS |
7. | ||
ISSUE | Modern electric
transmission systems makes it possible to site a power plant hundreds
of miles from the consumer area. In this way an area may be
polluted for environmentally damaged without gaining any benefits from
the power produced. |
||
STATUS |
If all types of power
generation were to meet as stringent siting and non-polluting
requirements as are presently demanded of nuclear power plants, the
power plant could then be located close to the area where the power
will be used. |
||
WHAT TO DO |
The Federation of Western
Outdoor Clubs recommends that all power plant sites be designed and the
power plant operated with adequate safety and environmental protection
to permit the location of the plant near its distribution area. |
