PACIFIC
CREST NATIONAL SCENIC TRAIL - FOREST SERVICE FUNDING AS A SINGLE UNIT |
The U.S. Forest Service
has been funding the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail (PCNST) on a
forest-by-forest basis. With forest-by-forest funding,
comprehensive trail operation can be fragmented. |
|
The Appalachian Trail is
funded as a single unit by the National Park Service.
Forest-by-forest funding is not unlike funding a national highway on a
count-by-county basis. Each forest has other trails that also
request funding for maintenance and construction. Some PCNST
sections can be neglected due to a lack of funds and other trail
priorities. Funding the PCNST as a single unit can unfragment the
Trails' operation. |
|
The Federation of
Western
Outdoor Clubs recommends the PCNST Forest Service's funding treat the
Trail as a single unit. |
