1991 RESOLUTIONS

|
ADDITION
TO THE SMITH RIVER NATIONAL RECREATION AREA |
The Smith River National
Recreation Area (NRA) was established in 1990 to include all national
forest lands in California in the Smith River watershed. The
Smith River and all major tributaries are components of the Federal
Wild and Scenic River System and are also given additional protection
from logging, mining, etc. Approximately 40,000 acres of the
watershed of the north fork of the Smith are in Oregon and were not
included in the NRA. The area in Oregon should be given the same
protection as the rest of the Smith River and included in the
NRA. Conservationists in Oregon and northern California have
expressed support for inclusion of the Smith River watershed in Oregon
in the NRA. |
|
The Federation of
Western
Outdoor Clubs recommends that the approximately 40,000 acres of the
North Fork Smith River watershed in Oregon be added to the Smith River
National Recreational Area. |
