ECONOMIC
PLANNING IN THE UNITED STATES |
In the early years of our
country, economic activity was directed by a perception of unlimited
supplies of cheap natural resources such as minerals, fuels, timber,
water, soil and air. |
|
Most resources were
treated as non-renewable, even in cases where they might have been
renewed. In this process the air, land and water were degraded in
quality to a degree that acid rain is threatening our lakes, rivers and
buildings. Many raw materials are becoming scarce or too costly
to produce. Our aquifers are drawn down to nonproductive
levels. Our lands have lost fertility and depth of soil. |
|
The Federation of
Western
Outdoor Clubs recommends that the future economic policies of the
United States be founded on the conservation of our natural resources
and the protection of the human and natural environment. |
