PACIFIC
COAST NATIONAL MARINE SANCTUARY |
Congress directed NOAA to
develop a proposal for establishing a National Marine Sanctuary off the
coast of Washington by June 1990, but, NOAA has yet to issue its Draft
EIS for this nomination. |
|
Washington's coast
possesses unmatched, nationally significant, pristine and productive
marine resources, but this coast is threatened by proposed offshore oil
development, ongoing tanker traffic and military bombing exercises. |
|
The Federation of
Western
Outdoor Clubs urges the Governor of Washington, Congress and NOAA to
designate the Olympic Coast of Washington as a National Marine
Sanctuary with boundaries from the Canadian border to Grays Harbor and
seaward to the slope of the outer continental shelf, and to prohibit
within these boundaries oil and gas development, to direct tanker
traffic to be as far from shore as possible, and to case the bombing of
Sea Lion Rocks. |
