POPULATION
CONTROL |
When ecobiologist Paul
Erlich wrote "The Population Bomb" in 1968, there were 3 1/2 billion
people on earth. He said that, in order to maintain environmental
quality into the future, world population should be under a
billion. It took 50,000 years to create the first billion; but
because of technology untempered by birth control, it now takes 10
years. We'll hit 6 billion by the turn of the century and
continue to soar at a suicidal rate, steadily wiping out other life
forms with which we're interdependent. |
|
Most population growth
comes from third worlders who have little or no education regarding
birth control. Due to ill-advised budget cuts the United States
has cut back funding for birth control information dissemination in
these countries. |
|
The Federation of
Western
Outdoor Clubs calls for the resumption by our country of its practice
of supporting education in family planning for developing
countries. The Federation also calls for funding for studies
leading to population decreases worldwide. |
