ENERGY
POLICY |
As the aftermath of the
war in the Persian Gulf, President Bush has announced his energy policy
for the ensuing years, declaring that the war has demonstrated the need
for the United States to provide locally for a dependable supply of
oil. His plan calls for a proliferation of nuclear plants and for
oil drilling in here-to-fore prohibited offshore continental shelves
and in the National Arctic Wildlife Refuge. This is not a long
term sustainable policy. The solution to our energy needs is
unacceptable due to the destruction of the habitat of flora and fauna
through oil spills, and oil drilling sites; and for the danger to human
health due to the accumulation of nuclear waste for which there is now
no known technique for its safe disposal. |

The Federation of
Western
Outdoor Clubs hereby goes on record as opposed to the President's
energy plan, and supports an alternative plan that includes the
conservation of energy by industrial and domestic users, and the use of
renewable sources of energy. |
