SAFE
DRINKING WATER AVAILABILITY ON TRAILS AND LAKES |
In the last twenty years
the pristine lakes and streams of pure drinking water in the mountains
have been degraded to the extent of carrying many kinds of pollution
and disease. |
|
The Forest Service is
urged to increase its education of people using roadless areas
concerning the dangers of drinking water from streams and lakes without
proper purification. Exclosure around springs and drinking water
sources need to be built in order to protect and maintain water
purity. Efforts should be made to provide proper sanitation by
placing the use of self-contained portable toilets at strategic points. |
|
The Federation of
Western
Outdoor Clubs recommends that the Forest Service and other agencies
expedite the foregoing preventative measures against further
deterioration of the water on all public lands. |
