_RULES FOR WILDERNESS ETHICS AND
BACK-COUNTRY USE_
|
In recognition of the
increasing human impact on wilderness and backcountry areas, the
Federation of Western Outdoor Clubs recommends for consideration by its
member clubs the following suggested back-country use rules: |
1. Obtain
back-country permits as required; where required register parties in
advance.

2. Trip leaders
should familiarize themselves with and follow any special requirements
for each area.
|
3. Limit party
to a maximum of twelve.
|
4. Stay on
established trails; do not cut switchbacks.
|
5. Camp in
established campsites when available.
|
6. Properly
dispose of human waste.
|
7. Use a camp
stove instead of building a fire.
|
8. Wash well
away from camps and water sources.
|
9. Leave
natural features undisturbed.
|
10. Keep wildlife healthy,
do not feed them. Leave pets at home.
|
11. Pack out all litter.
