FWOC RESOLUTION #15 |
_ENERGY CONSERVATION_
|
The Rocky Mountain
Institute of Snowmass, Colorado, has evolved a program of energy
conservation that greatly reduces or eliminates altogether the need
for additional fossil fuel and nuclear power plants. This program
consists of a combination of improved building designs, retrofits of
existing buildings, and utilization of alternative energy sources such
as wind-driven generators, solar panels, fuel cells and
cogeneration. It has been adopted by a number of utilities. |
The Federation of
Western
Outdoor Clubs urges that the Federal government adopt policies offering
financial incentives for the use of building designs that will save
heat and electrical energy and for the construction of alternate energy
source such as those mentioned above. The Federation further
urges that the pioneering work of the Rocky Mountain Institute in this
field be officially recognized by the Federal government. Letters
on these matters should be sent to Congress and to James D. Watkins,
Secretary of the Department of Energy, and to William K. Reilly,
Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. |
The Federation also urges
that building codes be revised to require the use of energy-saving
designs in new buildings, and to require retrofitting of existing
buildings (insofar as practicable) in order to save heat and electrical
energy. |
