FWOC RESOLUTION #17 |
_PERMANENT CAMPS AND CACHES IN IDAHO
WILDERNESS AREAS_
|
The American Wilderness
Act of 1964 prohibits the use of permanent camps, structures, caches
and piped water systems in wilderness areas. The U.S. Forest
Service has violated this act by permitting outfitters, operating under
its permits, to maintain such permanent structures, caches and
facilities in certain areas, including the Frank Church River of No
Return Wilderness (in Idaho). |
Wilderness Watch, a
non-profit organization, has filed a lawsuit in federal court to compel
the U.S. Forest Service to eliminate outfitter caches and permanent
structures there, and in all Idaho Wilderness areas. |
The Federation of
Western
Outdoor Clubs is in agreement with intent of this lawsuit and urges the
U.S. Forest Service to cease these violations of the 1964 Wilderness
Act. |
