FWOC RESOLUTION #7 |
_CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND
RECREATION_
|
The State of California
Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is facing a $33 million
budget cut for the fiscal year of 1992-1993. This is one-fifth of
their total budget. The results may be that 226 positions (of
2400
DPR positions) will be eliminated, 30 park units (out of 275) may have
to be closed, and service will be reduced in 150 parks. |
The consequences of such
reductions could result in insufficient maintenance, reduced fire
protection, renewed grazing and the introduction of commercial ventures
in the parks. |
The Federation of
Western
Outdoor Clubs urges the state legislature and the Governor to maintain
current DPR staffing levels and keep all state parks open. The
Federation encourages that interim funds be made available from the
state off-highway vehicle fund as well as the harbors and watercraft
fund for the above mentioned purpose. |
