FWOC RESOLUTION #13 |
_PRESERVATION OF SNOQUALMIE FALLS_
|
The Snoqualmie Valley, in
Washington State, has long been sacred to the Snoqualmie Indian
Tribe. It is not obtrusive and is currently listed as a National
Historic Structure. Now, both the Weyerhaueser Company and the
Puget Power Company have massive development plans for Snoqualmie
Falls. To begin with, Puget Power wants to expand the dam and
power plant to increase production of electric power from 42 megawatts
up to 74 megawatts. This would cut water flow at night to a
trickle. |
The proposed expansion of
the dam and power plant is being opposed by the Snoqualmie Indians, by
church groups and by environmental organizations. Snoqualmie
Falls is an outstanding scenic attraction and those opposing further
development want to keep it in as natural a state as possible. |
The Federation of
Western
Outdoor Clubs supports the Snoqualmie Tribe and the organizations
working on the Snoqualmie Falls Preservation Project in their efforts
to prevent further development at the Falls and urges member clubs in
Washington State to participate in this effort. |
