FWOC RESOLUTION #20 |
ELIMINATION OF THE MORTGAGE INTEREST
DEDUCTION FOR SECOND HOMES
|
The FWOC recommends to the
Clinton Administration and the Congress that the mortgage interest tax
deduction or second homes be eliminated. These are buildings that
are not a home-owners primary residence. |
Development of Western
farms, ranches and woodlands into second homes is environmentally
destructive. Such second homes which are not the primary
residence of the owners are being subsidized by this tax
deduction. Moreover, the majority of the citizens receive no
corresponding benefits. |
Elimination of this tax
loophole would help reduce the conversion of Western lands into second
home development and help reduce the budget deficit. |
