THE NORTH CASCADES INTERNATIONAL PARK |
The very attractive idea
of an International Park for the North Cascades has been under
consideration for a long time. |
||
Significant events have
occurred in the last few years that make implementation of this concept
a strong possibility. The United States, the State of Washington,
and the Province of British Columbia now have administrations that are
not only sensitive and responsive to environmental issues, but also are
fully award of the cooperative efforts needed to protect these special
trans-boundary lands and waters. |
||
|
These administrations are
also aware that the establishment of a Cascades International Park will
protect a trans-boundary ecosystem that is important for both
countries. Like Glacier Park, it can serve as a blueprint for the
establishment of future International Parks. |
|
This International Park
would include the present North Cascades Parks complex in the United
States. In British Columbia, it would include the Manning and
Cathedral Provincial Parks, and the Skagit Recreation Areas. The
current Park agencies would continue to manage their respective parks. |

The Federation of
Western
Outdoor Clubs endorses the establishment of a North Cascades
International Park. Furthermore, the Federation urges the
respective governments of the Province of British Columbia and the
United States to initiate the required discussions for establishment of
the North Cascades International Park. The Federation will convey
this endorsement to the Governor of the Sate of Washington, the Premier
of the Province of British Columbia, and to the Secretary of the
Interior of the United States. |
