CLEAN WATER |
The present Clean Water
Act is under review in Congress. Maintaining high water quality,
and adequate supplies of fresh water, are one of the most serious
requirements of this nation. |
||
Water quality must be
maintained to high purity levels, not only to support human consumption
but also to support wildlife habitat and fisheries. |
||
|
Strong provisions for
ground water protection and water-mining must be enacted to prevent and
control pollution of our water by toxic chemicals, such as oils and
pesticides. |
|
|
Substantial strengthening
of the wetland provision must also be enacted. Wetlands improve
water quality, provide flood control benefits, and support fisheries
and waterfowl. |
|
Not only must the Clean
Water Act be strengthened, but a concurrent education program for the
public must be implemented. Private citizens must be educated to
do their part in maintaining water quality; such as, using less amounts
of toxic household cleaners, using fewer chemicals on lawn and garden,
and supporting recycling of used motor oil. To eliminate water
pollution, industry, agriculture, and the public, must all do their part, and support a
strengthening of the Clean Water Act. |

The Federation of
Western
Outdoor Clubs urges its Members and Member Clubs to contact their
respective federal legislators in support of a strong Clean Water Act. |
