1994 RESOLUTIONS
|
ADDENDUM | ||
|
|
|
The disposition by the Federation of Western Outdoor Clubs of other proposed resolutions submitted for the Board of Directors appraisal were as follows: | ||
After discussion of a
resolution proposed pertaining to the Clean Water Act, wilderness
issues, etc., the Board felt that the significant portions of the
proposed resolutions were already covered in other resolutions. |
||
The Federation did not
concur with a resolution proposed for establishing "no-use wilderness
areas" in the State of Idaho. Although proposed as a stimulus for
Idaho's federal legislators to get Idaho's wilderness legislation
off-dead center, the proposal is inconsistent with current
wilderness-related legislation. |
||
|
The Federation's
Resolutions Committee incorporated a proposed resolution entitled,
"Mining Laws Rob Taxpayers" (pertaining to revising the 1872 Mining
Law) into a similar resolution pertaining to the Noranda "New World"
mine proposed for the north east corner of Yellowstone Park. |
|
|
The Federation's
Resolutions Committee rejected a resolution proposed in support of
nuclear power, as not suitable for consideration by the FWOC Board of
Directors. |
|
A more comprehensive
resolution was also provided that pertained to global warming.
This recommended increased support for research and development
(R&D) to make carbon-based fuel combustion processes more fuel
efficient, more R&D on (and more rapid implementation of)
technically feasible "alternative" energy sources such as wind, solar,
tidal power, etc. |
||
This proposed resolution
also contained a recommendation that the country's major environmental
groups reconsider their opposition to nuclear power in view of what is
definitively now known of the threat of global warming to the planets
environment. This entire resolution was tabled for future
discussion by the FWOC Board of Directors. |
