1997 FWOC Resolution
No. 24:
|
|
OPPOSITION TO LOGGING IN OREGON STATE PARKS
|
|
State Parks in Oregon are
now funded by an appropriation from the legislature. The funds
allotted during the 1997 legislative session are barely sufficent for
salaries and basic upkeep. No needed maintenance or improvements
on facilities are possible with these limited funds. |
|
It is becoming apparent
that the State Parks staff is considering making up for the scarcity of
funds by logging and will recommend this course of action to members of
the State Parks Commission. Already $20,000 worth of logs have
been cut and sold out of Silver Falls Park, near Salem. If
logging in Oregon State Parks becomes an accepted practice, parks in
all sections of the state will ultimately be at risk. It would
also be a dangerous precedent for other states to consider. |
|
The Federation of Western
Outdoor Clubs is opposed to all logging in state parks. |
