NEVADA WILDERNESS EDUCATION CAMPAIGN
|
|
Nevada is the most
mountainous state, the fifth most biodiverse state, the driest state,
and the fastest growing state in the country. Although it has
more than ten million acres of de facto wilderness, its wild places are
relatively unknown, even to those who live in the las Vegas and Reno
areas and certainly to those who live in other parts of the country.
At the present time only 800,000 acres is protected in formal
wilderness status. |
|
Friends of Nevada
Wilderness and the Toiyabe Chapter of the Sierra Club have launched a
campaign to educate the public about the values of Nevada
wildlands. Slide shows, brochures, and maps are being prepared
for presentation to groups, both in Nevada and elsewhere. Trips
are offered to these remote places, and a speaker's bureau is being
formed to go get out the message. If this magnificent resource is
to be protected, Nevada wilderness will need the same kind of
wide-spread public support that the Utah Wilderness has received. |
|
The Federation of Western
Outdoor Clubs supports the Friends of Nevada Wilderness and the Toiyabe
Chapter of the Sierra Club in their efforts to educate the public about
the values of Nevada wilderness. |
