1998 FWOC Resolution No. 13:
|
|
Marine Ecosystem Sanctuaries
|
|
Marine ecosystems
(coastal, marshes, and open ocean) are experiencing negative
environmental impacts from pollution -- chemical, plastic, hydrocarbon,
and thermal -- overexploitation of biological resources, wetland
conversion, and introduction of non-native species. Federally
designated and protected marine sanctuaries are an effective way of
dealing with these problems. |
|
Because of this
environmental degradation, the Federation of Western
Outdoor Clubs advocates the protection of marine resources and
ecosystems and specifically calls for the establishment of a National
Marine Sanctuary in the Northwest Straits area of Puget Sound,
Washington, in order to protect this unique and irreplaceable ecosystem. |
