1998 FWOC Resolution No. 22:
|
|
Eliminating Compensation for Loss of Natural
Resource Permits
|
|
Recent Congressional
action approved an expanded bombing range in the Owyhee Canyonlands
Proposed National Monument in southern Idaho. This included
paying a rancher $300,000 for this loss of his grazing permit.
The Federation of Western
Outdoor Clubs opposes compensating and individual or corporation for
the loss of the privilege to use public lands, feeling that it is a
dangerous precedent an done that is burdensome to the U.S. taxpayer. |

ACTION: The FWOC urges member
groups and members to contact their Congressional representatives and
express their opposition to any measures which attempt to "compensate"
ranchers or other commercial users of public lands for alleged "losses"
to their extractive uses, when such uses were just privivleges, and not
legally-established rights. |
