1998 FWOC Resolution No. 9:
|
|
New Grazing Threat to Public Lands
|
|
The Smith Forage Bill
(H.R. 2493) has already been approved by the House and has passed out
of the Senate Energy Committee by a vote of 11-9. This bill would
have the effect of establishing grazing as the best use of public
lands, along with hard rock mining, and would make it more difficult
for agencies to control envrionmental degradation caused by overgrazing. |
|
Because of the possible
adverse effects on wildlife habitat and other public land values, the
Federation of Western
Outdoor Clubs opposes the Smith Forage Bill. |

ACTION: The FWOC urges its member
clubs and members to write to their Senators and ask them to vote
against the Smith Forage Bill (S.2493), and to the President asking him
to veto the bill if it passes the Senate. |
