Resolution
#11: National Forest Roadless Areas
|
|
Conservation organizations
including the Sierra Club, the California Wilderness Coalition, the
Wilderness Society, the Sierra Nevada Forest Protection Campaign, and
other organizations are working to preserve our nation's remaining
public wildlands as wilderness. These organizations are working
to ensure that the Forest Service affords full protection to the Sierra
Nevada wilderness areas and to other wildlands located in our country's
National Forest. To protect these potential wilderness areas, it
is necessary that the Forest Service adopt a policy of prohibiting road
construction in these areas. Roadless areas are critically
important because they minimize possible environmental damage to the
critical habitats most often located in forested areas. The
National Forests are our country's most heavily-used recreation lands,
the main users being campers, hunters, fishers, and hikers. |
|
ACTION: FWOC joins with
these and many other organizations in the effort to protect our
remaining wildlands. "Grassroots" support by our members and
member clubs is essential to the success of this effort. Letters
should be written endorsing all legislation supporting this objective,
and sent to the officials of the US Forest Service and to your state
and national elected officials. |
