Resolution
#14: Ending Commercial Logging in National Forests: the McKinney-Leach
Bill
|
|
Commercial logging has
converted priceless native forest lands in public ownership to tree
plantations, and at subsidized prices to timber companies. Only
5% of the nation's virgin forest remain. It is insanity to lose
anymore virgin forest at such great loss to taxpayers. Private
industry can grow all of the timber the nation requires on its own
lands. The McKinney-Leach bill (HR 1396, The National Forest
Protection and Restoration Act) now before Congress would eliminate
commercial logging in our National Forests as well as providing
restoration jobs for displaced timber workers. |
|
FWOC fully supports and
endorses the McKinney-Leach bill before Congress to end commercial
logging in National Forests and urges all member clubs to mobilize
their membership in support of this legislation. |
|
ACTION: Write your
