Resolution
#28: West Point Sewage Treatment Plant
|
|
The King County Metro
Sewage Treatment plant on the beautiful Puget Sound shoreline at West
Point in Seattle is eight football fields in length along the
shore. A proposal has been made to increase the size of the plant
to accommodate more growth in and North of Seattle. A legal
settlement for the West Point plant in the early 1990's mandated that
no additional pollution should be added to the waste stream entering
Puget Sound from the West Point plant. |
|
For that reason, and
because conveyance problems and considerations make it unreasonable and
expensive to transport sewage long distances to treatment facilities,
the Federation of Western Outdoor Clubs opposes enlargement of the West
Point Treatment plant and urges the use of the remaining land for
recreation for the people of the region. |
