Resolution
#4: Recycling of Beverage Containers
|
|
The California bottle bill
which passed the Legislature in 1986 resulted in more than 75%
recycling of our beer and soft drink containers, saying huge amounts of
scarce natural resources and resulting in a tremendous reduction in
ugly and dangerous glass and plastic litter on our streets, highways,
in our parks and on our beaches. it saves California taxpayers
$44 million annually in avoided trash disposal costs. But the law
does not require deposits on non-carbonated beverages such as iced
teas, most mineral waters, juice, and somme soft drinks. Many of
these beverages did not exist when the original bottle bill became
law. Now is the time for recycling supporters to fix this problem
once and for all by contacting their California Assembly members and
urging a YES vote for SB-332. |
|
ACTION: The FWOC
urges the California Assembly to pass B-332, which would expand
California's existing bottle bill by requiring deposits on
non-carbonated beverages such as iced teas, most mineral waters and
some soft drinks. California members and member clubs are asked
to send copies of this resolution to their Assembly members. |
