Resolution
#7: Management of Sierra Nevada National Forests
|
|
Region 5 of the US Forest
Service has been preparing a draft EIS for the management of the Sierra
Nevada forests. The Sierra Nevada Forest Protection Campaign has
submitted a conservation proposal which emphasizes protection of old
growth, no entry into roadless areas, protection of riparian areas, and
emphasis on wildlife including California spotted owl, goshawk, and fur
bearers such as the marten and fisher, and amphibians. This
proposal has been incorporated as one of the alternatives to be
presented in the draft EIS. |
|
ACTION: FWOC strongly
supports the Conservation Alternative prepared by the Sierra Nevada
Forest Protection Campaign. When the draft EIS is released,
member clubs are asked to write a letter to Regional Forester, Brad
Powell, USDA Forest Service, Pacific Southwest Region, 1323 Club Drive,
Vallejo, CA 94592, endorsing the SNFPC alternative and asking that it
be selected as the preferred alternative. |
