Resolution
#9: Preservation of Giant Sequoia Groves
|
|
1997 FWOC Resolution #10
and 1998 FWOC Resolution #6 on this subject are hereby
reaffirmed. HR-2077 has been re-introduced in the House of
Representatives as the "Sequoia Ecosystem and Recreation Reserve Act of
1999". Passage of this long-delayed and badly-needed legislation
(to ensure the continued existence of the giant sequoias in Sequoia
National Forest is of extreme importance. This bill assures the
continued existence of these trees by: |
|
1. Designating
certain areas (totaling approximately 160,000 acres) as Wilderness
Areas and adding those areas to the national Wilderness Preservation
System. 2. Setting aside approximately 341,000 acres within the Sequoia National Forest as the "Giant Sequoia National Forest Preserve". |
|
ACTION: Please write to
your Senators and Representatives urging early passage of this much
needed legislation. |
