RESOLUTION
#37: SOFTWOOD LUMBER FAIR COMPETITION BILL (H.R. 2181)
|
Subsidies to the Canadian
softwood lumber industry encourage continuation of high levels of
logging in British Columbia's old growth forests. |
The Softwood Lumber Fair
Competition bill (H.R. 2181) would require the President of the United
States to undertake measures (through a tax, quota or toherwise) to
keep Canadian lumber imports at levels that do not exceed historical
averages. Such measures would offset the advantages provided by
these subsidies. |
The Federation of Western
Outdoor Clubs calls upon the U.S. Congress to enact this legislation. |
